Country Music Inspired Design
I love country music. There. My secret is out! As a graphic designer I sometimes feel that I should be more attracted to punk, or hipster bands that are “really obscure, you’ve probably never heard of them.” In reality I listen to a lot of classical and ballet music while I’m working (lyrics distract me if I’m working with type), acoustic songs on a rainy day, Bon Jovi or Springsteen if I’m cooking, and country music for all the rest. I love it so much that when the opportunity to go to Nashville presented itself, I cancelled other plans to go.
I had high expectations of Nashville. I thought I would fall in love with the plethora of live music, the southern cooking, and the opportunity to buy authentic cowboy boots. The city held up its end and then some. What I didn’t count on was loving the design style of Nashville. Or more specifically, I fell in love with Hatch Show Print– one of the oldest working letterpress print shops in the US.
